Bill & Judy Wegehaupt
“My wife Judy and I met Scott at the “Showcase of Homes” back in 2005. We went there after three Door County builders whom we spent over three hours each, going over our house plans for bids. Apparently our Door County home was not big enough for their efforts.
Puyleart Brothers showcase home was the first one we stopped at. We were impressed with the home’s floor plan, material, and craftsmanship. During the tour of other “Showcase Homes,” we asked which builders would be willing to build a home in Door County. Four others said they would consider our request. Scott gave us a list of sub-contractors that he used. We talked with the person who did the tile work. He said that he enjoyed laying tile in Puyleart’s houses because they were extremely square, something a tile man enjoyed. We also went to homes built be Puyleart Brothers and talked with the people. Everyone told us about the favorable working conditions with Scott and how satisfied they were.
Having done the research on the largest investment that you would make in your life, we chose Puyleart Brothers to build our home.
The first thing that we liked was the fact that Scott allowed us to go out and pick items that would go into the house like, appliances, electrical fixtures, floor coverings, etc. This helped us bring a solid total price to the project, without Scott having to guess what we might like. You hear about the dreaded “over-runs” that make a project turn into a horror story.
The first 2x6 was nailed on July 23, 2007 and we moved into our retirement home on October 6. Our home is 1,699 square feet on the first floor, 600 square feet upstairs, with 2.5 baths craftsman style bungalow.
The thing that I liked about working with Puyleart Brothers was that they would layout the next week’s work and almost to the day say what would be happening. We did not lose one day on construction to weather or any problems with sub-contractors. The day before a sub would come to work up here in Sister Bay, all the material that would used was here on site.
The best side story about our project and Puyleart Brother’s work was that one day during the framing process, Scott apologized for the saw dust and ends of wood lying around the floor. When I came back that evening, all wood pieces and saw dust was cleaned up. Scott said that he knew that neighbors would walk through the project site after they were done for the day and he wanted to show them a clean work site and how he did business. That meant a lot to me and how he did things. “No Smoking” signs were placed on all entry doors during construction, which was another plus to me. I also appreciated having Scott or Shawn talked with me, not down to me, about their ideas on items not specifically laid out in the plans. We have had so many people visit our home in Door County and praise so many details that were put into our homes. The best form of a compliment came when we went to Scott’s new home, which he built right after our home and saw ideas that were in our home. I guess we had some good ideas.
If we were ever going to build again, or need something added to our present home, we would call Scott in a heartbeat.
If you are ever up in Sister Bay and would like to see their work, ask for our number and we are sure that they will give it to you.”
